Sandra Jauregui is a first-generation American and the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants who built their small business, bought a home, and created opportunity for their family through hard work and perseverance. They taught her the values of integrity, resilience, and standing up for others.
While attending UNLV, Sandra began her career working in nonprofit and state housing relief programs, including with the Nevada Attorney General’s housing program and the Financial Guidance Center. During the Great Recession, she saw firsthand how deeply families were hurting and made it her mission to help Nevadans stay in their homes. She later expanded that work by establishing and overseeing down payment assistance programs that helped families achieve the dream of homeownership.
Sandra went on to work in the private sector, continuing to help hardworking Nevadans buy homes while building deep experience in housing policy, economic development, and community outreach.
When she saw state leaders passing laws that increased costs for families and weakened worker protections, Sandra decided to run for office to fight for a better direction for Nevada.
In the Legislature, Sandra focused on lowering costs, expanding affordable housing, protecting workers, and creating good-paying jobs. She led efforts to protect seniors and veterans from unfair rent increases, eliminate surprise fees in rental agreements, cut red tape to speed up housing development, and invest tens of millions of dollars into attainable housing.
When federal efforts stalled due to Republican obstruction, Sandra helped lead state-level action to lower prescription drug and health insurance costs, including passing legislation to cap the cost of insulin. She also passed legislation to make school meals free for all students and, as Majority Leader, secured a historic $2.6 billion investment in public education, including $250 million for teacher pay.
During economic uncertainty, Sandra championed legislation projected to create 19,000 construction jobs and 18,000 permanent jobs, ensuring Nevadans could find opportunity here at home.
A survivor of the 1 October mass shooting, Sandra turned personal tragedy into purpose. She led the fight to ban bump stocks, enact red flag laws, and strengthen tools for law enforcement to prevent gun violence and address domestic terrorism, always working to keep Nevada communities safe.
Sandra has never been afraid to take on powerful interests and deliver results for working families. Now, she is running for Lieutenant Governor to bring that same bold leadership to create jobs, expand affordable housing, strengthen our economy, and keep Nevada safe.
