My Priorities

Sandra will always fight like hell for our constitutional rights and defend Nevada against policies that undermine our democracy and divide our communities. That means fighting Trump’s illegal tariffs that are driving up the cost of gas, groceries and construction while Nevadans continue to lose their jobs. It also means protecting the right to access abortion and birth control, no matter what happens at the federal level. The first step to restoring Nevada’s economy and ensuring that Nevadans can find jobs is making sure MAGA Republican elected officials lose theirs. 

Sandra believes that healthcare is a fundamental right. As a lawmaker, Sandra has fought to lower costs for working families by taking on Big Pharma and insurance companies. She passed legislation to cap the cost of insulin, expand access to affordable coverage, and require hospital price transparency. Sandra has been a long time leader in the fight to lower the cost of prescription drugs - and as Lt. Governor, she will continue to fight to hold corporations accountable and ensure every Nevadan can afford the care they need.

Every Nevada family deserves to find a home they can afford. Sandra has made that a priority her entire career. During the Great Recession, Sandra helped Nevadans stay in their homes as the Foreclosure Mitigation Lead for US Senator Reid. As a lawmaker, Sandra has passed laws to strengthen renter protections and crack down on predatory and hidden fees, and prohibit anticompetitive and monopolistic practices meant to drive up housing costs. Sandra believes we also have to increase housing at every income level and has torn down the red tape blocking housing that Nevada families desperately need. As Lt. Governor, Sandra will take on private equity companies and hedge funds that are buying up our housing, and protect the rights of renters and homeowners so that working families, seniors, and young people can find homes they can afford to live in.

As a survivor of the 1 October mass shooting in Las Vegas, gun violence prevention is deeply personal to Sandra. She has worked alongside law enforcement and advocates to pass commonsense gun safety laws, including banning bump stocks and ghost guns, strengthening universal background checks, and enacting extreme risk protection orders to prevent tragedies before they happen. As Lt. Governor, Sandra believes that we can protect the 2nd Amendment and 2nd graders at the same time. That’s why she will continue the fight to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, domestic abusers, and terrorists so that everyone can go to school, a concert or a place of worship without fear of being gunned down. 

Nevada’s economic future depends on creating good-paying jobs that match the skills and strengths of our workforce. Sandra has fought to invest in smart economic development by attracting and growing industries that are sustainable, low-water use, and invest in Nevada’s long-term needs. She also knows that it is working families and unions that truly power Nevada and has a long record of protecting the rights, wages and benefits of workers. In 2025, Sandra was named Labor Champion of the Year by Southern Nevada Building Trades and she will continue to fight for working families as Lt. Governor by expanding partnerships with unions, community colleges, and businesses to create paid apprenticeships and job training programs that give Nevadans the skills they need to secure good-paying careers.
